Since opening our doors in 1975, Country’s has been doin’ things the hard way—because that’s the right way. Our food? We make it from scratch with no shortcuts, just like Grandma would’ve done it.
Our barbecue is slow-cooked fresh at each location over hickory and oak, giving it that rich, smoky flavor y’all love. Our Brunswick stew? It takes two full days to make from scratch, the way it’s meant to be. Everything from our pies to our lemonade is made right here, with fresh-squeezed lemons and hand-cut fries. We use only the best ingredients, like top-quality, federally inspected pork and 100% Black Angus for our hamburger steaks.
For those minding their health, we’ve got plenty of wholesome options like barbecue chicken, smoked turkey, and fresh vegetables. We fry up our foods in 100% peanut oil and even take the time to skin our chicken before frying—except the wings, of course (you ever tried skinning a wing?). Country's Mercury Drive - This is where it all started—the heart and soul of Country’s Barbecue! Opened by Jim Morpeth in 1975, our Mercury Drive location has always been a family joint, where comfort comes before fancy decor.
It’s likely your server once played on our giant red rocking chair as a kid. Our barbecue is still cooked the old-fashioned way—open pit over red oak and hickory. Tuesday nights are all-you-can-eat BBQ chicken night across all our Columbus spots, and on Fridays and Saturdays, you can tap your toes to live bluegrass music right here at the original from 6:30 to 10 p.m. So gather up the whole family, pick a night, and enjoy some down-home barbecue and country cookin’. Country’s Barbecue on Mercury Dr. – the original, and still the best.

Country's on Broad - Downtown Columbus has always held a special place in my heart—it’s where I grew up and where I still find myself drawn to. So when the old Greyhound bus station from the 1930s went up for sale, Country’s had to have it. We bought it in 1988 and turned it into a shiny, stainless steel barbecue diner that’s like taking a step back in time.
The decor and music will stir up memories, whether you’re old enough to remember or not! Sit at the milkshake bar and enjoy FREE tunes from the jukebox (maybe even spin some James Brown—he passed through this very station once upon a time). The kiddos can “drive” the old Greyhound bus while you and the family chow down on our daily Bus Driver’s Special. Be sure to check out the mural by the bar, featuring three original servers from the bus station days. All our barbecue is cooked over oak and hickory in an open pit, just the way Southerners like it. Plus, we’ve got the only drive-thru in town and downtown lunch delivery.

Country’s Barbecue North - If you love the great outdoors, you’ll feel right at home here. Country’s North is like a cozy lodge, complete with ski lift chairs at the bar. As you enjoy our open pit barbecue and Southern cookin’, why not try your hand at drawing on the tablecloth? We might just hang your masterpiece on the wall!
Since opening our newest location in 1992, kids and adults alike have been coming here to eat, draw, and enjoy some good ol’ Southern hospitality. When the weather’s nice, grab a seat on the patio and breathe in that hickory smoke drifting through the neighborhood. And don’t miss our annual Halloween bash—it’s a Columbus tradition with live music, a haunted house, carriage rides, boiled peanuts, pumpkin pie, costumes, and of course, great food. Country’s North is all about family fun, where everyone’s welcome!
